Visit Palma
Mallorca’s landscape varies from dramatic mountains in the northwest across the fertile plains to the coves and superb sandy beaches in the east.
Palma, on the southern tip of the island, is the seat of the autonomous government of the Balearic Islands. Here you’ll find a choice of shops, restaurants and nightlife as well as sightseeing, including the magnificent Bellver Castle and one of the biggest marinas in the Med.
Old Palma is typified by the area immediately surrounding the cathedral. Mazes of narrow alleys and cobblestoned streets echo the era when Palma was one of the chief ports in the Mediterranean. Today Palma is a bustling city whose massive tourist industry has more than made up for its decline as a major seaport. Trendy and chic, Palma draws in the more discerning clientele to its fine tapas and unique nighclubs. Majorca itself attracts the largest number of visitors of any place in the Balearics and is famed for resorts such as Alcudia, Puerto Pollensa, Daia and Formentor.
Local Cuisine Cuisines in Mallorca are similar to other Mediterranean dishes, however the emphasis here is slightly more concerned with pork-based dishes and other influences from the Catalan traditions. Due to its island location, Mallorca not surprisingly offers a huge variety of seafood and fish cuisines and tapas. Those with quite acute palates and vegetarians need not worry about being able to find food to suit their taste; the varieties here are great and Mallorca really does provide a pleasurable dining experience.
Night Life Mallorca is nearly as renowned for its nightlife as Ibiza and perhaps the general consent may be more favourable toward Mallorca. Nightclubs, Bars and Discoteques run on until the early hours of the morning and crowds gather down by the beach for fun and parties. Mallorca is unique in many respects and live music scene has developed a strong reputation over recent years. As with all of the best holiday destinations in the world, Mallorca caters for a wide variety of tastes; if nightclubs and late night partying doesn’t suit your palate, you are sure to find something that will. Mallorca has it all.
