Germany Routes Information
The German landscape is varied, in the south, the Alps attract skiers and snowboarders in the winter and hiking enthusiasts in summer, who come to explore the scenic lakes and atmospheric castles both here and in the Black Forest. Water sports are another summer pastime, and in the north, the island of Rugen with its majestic white cliffs and coastal towns like Wilhelmshaven offer terrific facilities for sailing adventures on the North Sea. All of these factors help to make Germany a great place for a short break.
Regional characteristics are evident in Germany, some historical provinces have vanished from the map and others have emerged. Hamburg and Bremen, for example, retain their age-old status as free cities and the imperial capital, Berlin still stands apart, sometimes decadent, always exciting. In polar opposition is the Rhineland, where the river's majestic sweep has spawned a particularly rich fund of legends and folklore, and where the locals are imbued with a Mediterranean sense of fun. Munich is also the host of the 2006 football World Cup, which is another very good reason for a city break to Germany. The best route to Munich for this event is to get the ferry from Dover to Calais and then drive to Munich. If you wish to book accommodation we would advise that you do so very shortly. Germany is a great place for a city break, short break or a self drive ferry holiday. We can offer you a range of hand picked hotels that you may book directly with our staff when you book your ferry.
